About Saut de Basque
Saut de Basque is fetish dance theatre. An artistic representation of the fetish scene, performed with skilful execution by a company of professional dancers.
We are performance art using the medium of dance & fetishism to explore & reflect aspects of human sexuality and interaction.
Saut de Basque made their début at the Skin Two Rubber Ball 2008, performing in rubber, fetish footwear, corsets, dildos in harnesses, bits & reins, stockings & chaps.
Karen Estabrook, originator & choreographer of Saut de Basque says: "I love sex, I love fetish fashion, I love music, I love dancing, I love exhibitionism, & Saut de Basque encompasses all of this, as do our audiences."
The different performance pieces are inspired by various aspects of human sexuality, fetishes, vampirism, & the more subtle side of sexuality - the psychological.
Some topics explore other aspects of humanity that at first don't appear to be sexual in nature, such as war & religion. Karen explains: "Look deeper at the roles people play in social intercourse & life in general & you will see sexual echoes such as dominance & submission, sado-masochism, gratification & denial, pleasure & pain, & power as an aphrodisiac."
Musical artists currently being used in the repertoire include Marilyn Manson, Garbage, Timbaland, Rob Zombie, Miss Kittin, Grace Jones & Prince.
Saut de Basque, the name, comes from a French dance term for a jump, but for Karen it conjures up the image of jumping dancers in basques.
